Morale is something that can be difficult to maintain, especially when people are working overtime each and every week to make sure that you can get your company off the ground. However, it isn’t impossible to keep employees happy. Here are just a few ways to start doing it today.
Ask
Your employees shouldn’t be scary to you. Talking to them should come naturally if you’ve created a strong culture of communication and professionally close relationships with your employees. Most will talk to you and be honest and upfront, and sometimes you may even get a few suggestions out of them. Ask them how satisfied they are with management, and how they feel about the conditions they work in. Do they get enough benefits? Do they feel like the pay is fair, and everyone is treated equally?
Feel with Their Sorrows
If you really have no idea how your staff feels, take a moment and walk in their shoes. Talk with customers, answer phone calls, and work with the people they work with to see how it might feel every day to face what they face. Understanding how your employees work starts with just figuring out what they go through every day of their lives while they’re at work. Ask your managers to do the same and have them give you weekly reports on how they think everyone is doing.
Social Media Can Help
There are many programs, such as Topsy, that enable you to search through posts associated with your business. Generally, if your employees are dissatisfied and morale is down, your customers will know it. They will complain about poor quality or a “grumpy” customer service agent. If you can’t find anything online, talk to your customers directly to see what their impressions of your employees are.
